Overcoming disability to achieve your dreams: Stories of PwD’s (People with Disabilities) associated with DRF

Overcoming disability to achieve your dreams: Stories of PwDs (People with Disabilities) associated with DRF

In this world every human being is born to be different in their own way. Every person carries their own strengths and weaknesses. One person may have plethora of opportunities while others may not. To be succinct, everyone has to face their fair share of challenges in life. Whether you choose to run away from it or whether you choose to face it is what distinguishes you from others.

We all possess unique qualities and characteristics that make us who we are. While some of these qualities may be advantageous others may have the potential to hold us back. When we decide to not let these disadvantageous qualities and characteristics stop us from taking a step towards our goals and ambitions, it is only then our true courage and brevity is exhibited.

Many people with special physical needs face plenty of obstacles on a daily basis. These characteristics often overshadow the true talents that are hidden underneath. However, it does not mean that they do not have equal potential or comparable skills. It just means that they deserve a chance to show their gifts and truly showcase what they have to offer to this world.

Dr. Reddys Foundation helps uncovering these hidden attributes by providing opportunities, support, and care for the people who need guidance to bring out their full potential from within them. They work towards giving them hope and making them believe in themselves. The foundation offers educational and as well as social skills training that helps motivate and build the candidates self-confidence.

Ankur Agarwal from Delhi is one of the many examples of how the Dr. Reddys Foundation is striving to create opportunities for those who do not have them. Ankur with an orthopedic disability aspired to get a job someday but was aware of the barriers he had to conquer. This was when he discovered the Dr. Reddys foundation in Karkardooma, Delhi that informed him about the Livelihood Advancement Business School supported by the foundation. He promptly enrolled in a 60-day Information Technology-enabled Services training program which helped him acquire the initial position of a customer executive. Eventually his hard work and determination helped him flourish in his area of expertise and was soon promoted to the supervisor position.

Another example is of Pradip from a financially struggling background who suffers from polio in both legs. After completing his B.Com, he had lost his purpose, and that is when he stumbled upon the Dr. Reddys Foundation in Salt Lake center, Kolkata. He also enrolled in the Information Technology-enabled Services and soon found himself working with Reliance Money Solutions.

In conclusion, these accounts prove that no one can stop you from doing what you want unless you want them to. No matter what life throws in your way, you should accept it with a smile, and do the best you can with perseverance and tenacity, so you are left with no regrets in the end.

Blossoms @ PWD, Cochin (Batches 1B&2A)

An important lesson in the quest for quality is accepting failures with humility”

Raghu Gudipati, who heads the Quality Assurance and Enhancement vertical at Dr.Reddy's foundation, Hyderabad follows this tenet for living and working wholeheartedly ! He shares the experience of his recent visit to the LABS-PwD center at Cochin, where he found teamwork and heartfelt connections, among the DRF Team.

Says Raghu "I found a great energy in aspirants while they were sharing about their experience in LABS and how LABS helped them to connect to their life and made them feel happy. I acknowledge the efforts made by Ms. Lekshmi (CE facilitator), Mr. Harish (ITES facilitator) and Ms. Karthika (SLI facilitator) for their dedication in this journey.

Raghu got an opportunity to visit one of the secretaries Mr. Muralidharan, who supported DRF in doing LABS programme. While interacting with him, Raghu related to the following quote on ‘serving people’ . In Sevasramam, they believe that 'Service is to be done not in the spirit of pity or sympathy but in a spirit of worship, the receiver being in the position of God and the giver as the blessed worshipper'.
Raghu's  experience is best said in the following words "My deep gratitude to entire PWD LABS team as whenever I visit any of the PWD LABS, I get a great learning which gives me a different perspective about life"  #dreamwithDRF
